ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 7, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND DEPARTED THE U.S. ON MARCH 23, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 81ST FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION AS A CHIEF OF SECTION (MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY 864) THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON NOVEMBER 5, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT LEAVENWORTH, KANSAS.
