SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON 8 FEBRUARY 1945 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY A, 170TH ENGINEER COMBAT BATTALION IN THE RYUKYUS CAMPAIGN AND AS A PARTICIPANT IN THE OCCUPATION OF JAPAN AFTER THE WAR ENDED. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (JAPAN). HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT ON 29 JULY 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
