ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 11, 1941 AT EAST SAINT LOUIS, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER, 345. SERVED IN THE U.S. UNTIL DEPARTING SEPTEMBER 5, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH BATTERY B, 434TH ARMORED FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, 7TH ‘LUCKY SEVENTH’ ARMORED DIVISION UPON THEIR ARRIVAL AND FOUGHT WITH THEM THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON OCTOBER 24, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
