ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON NOVEMBER 2, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY (MOS) OF GUNNER. DEPARTED THE U.S. ON MARCH 15, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY C, 21ST TANK BATTALION, 10TH ‘TIGER’ ARMORED DIVISION IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN AND INTO THE OCCUPATION OF GERMANY AFTER THE WAR ENDED IN EUROPE. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (GERMANY). QUALIFIED AS A SUPPLY NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (MOS 021) AND HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON AUGUST 30, AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT GEORGE G. MEADE, MARYLAND.
