ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON NOVEMBER 19, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ARMY AIR FORCES, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AIRCRAFT ARMORER (911). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON JUNE 1, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 107TH TACTICAL RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON, 67TH TACTICAL RECONNAISSANCE GROUP, EQUIPPED WITH F6A AIRCRAFT (THE PHOTO-RECONNAISSANCE VERSION OF THE P-51 MUSTANG) AND BASED AT MIDDLE WALLOP, ENGLAND, BEFORE THE INVASION OF FRANCE. PARTICIPATED IN THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 10, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
