ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 17, 1943 AT FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. SELECTED FOR SERVICE IN THE ADJUTANT GENERAL’S DEPARTMENT, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND POSTAL SCHOOL AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF ARMY POSTAL CLERK (056). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON DECEMBER 5, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 135TH ARMY POSTAL UNIT THROUGH THE PREPARATION FOR AND OPENING OF THE WESTERN FRONT ON JUNE 6, 1944. PARTICIPATED IN THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 4TH GRADE ON DECEMBER 13, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
