ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MARCH 3, 1941 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ORDNANCE CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF SECOND ECHELON AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC (014). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON SEPTEMBER 20, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 893RD ORDNANCE (HEAVY AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE) COMPANY. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON JANUARY 4, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
