ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 3, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE INFANTRY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF MACHINE GUN CREWMAN (605), AND ASSIGNED TO COMPANY M, 114TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 44TH INFANTRY DIVISION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON SEPTEMBER 5, 1945 BOUND FOR COMBAT IN THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. PARTICIPATED IN THE NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH THREE BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE ON NOVEMBER 20, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION POINT, CAMP JOSEPH T. ROBINSON, ARKANSAS.
