ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 30, 1941 AT EAST SAINT LOUIS, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ARMORED ENGINEER CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF GENERAL CARPENTER (050). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MAY 25, 1942 BOUND FOR NORTH AFRICA. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY C, 16TH ARMORED ENGINEER BATTALION IN THE TUNISIAN AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON SEPTEMBER 2, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP CHAFFEE, ARKANSAS.
