ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 11, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE FIELD ARTILLERY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345) AND ASSIGNED TO COMPANY C, 774TH TANK BATTALION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON JUNE 3, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ENTERED COMBAT IN MID-AUGUST AND FOUGHT THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON DECEMBER 12, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
