ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 11, 1943 AT FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. SELECTED FOR THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF COOK’S HELPER (590). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON DECEMBER 6, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE MEDICAL DETACHMENT, 105TH GENERAL HOSPITAL, IN AUSTRALIA AND THROUGH THE NEW GUINEA AND SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JANUARY 14, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
