ARMY SPECIALIZED TRAINING PROGRAM, WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY, 1943-1944. DEPLOYED TO EUROPEAN THEATER, 1944. SERVED IN 3RD PLATOON, COMPANY A, 56TH ARMORED ENGINEER BATTALION, 11TH ARMORED DIVISION, 'THUNDERBOLTS'. ATTACHED TO GENERAL PATTON'S 3RD ARMY DURING THE BATTLE OF THE BULGE. KILLED IN ACTION ON APRIL 7, 1945 WHILE PROVIDING MACHINE GUN COVER FOR HIS PLATOON DURING AN ENEMY AMBUSH NEAR SUHL, GERMANY. AWARDED POSTHUMOUS PURPLE HEART AND RECOMMENDED FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE CROSS.
