ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 24, 1943 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR DUTY WITH THE ARMY AIR FORCES AND COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING. QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AIRCRAFT ARMORER (911) AND ATTENDED THE FLEXIBLE GUNNERY SCHOOL. SERVED STATESIDE AS AN INSTRUCTOR WITH SQUADRON T, 337TH ARMY AIR FORCES BASE UNIT AT VENICE ARMY AIR FIELD, FLORIDA. EARNED THE AIRCREW MEMBER BADGE (WINGS), GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CORPORAL ON FEBRUARY 15, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
