ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 23, 1943 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF MACHINE GUNNER (606). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON SEPTEMBER 24, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH BATTERY C, 438TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY AUTOMATIC WEAPONS BATTALION (MOBILE) THROUGH THE ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH THREE BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON FEBRUARY 23, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
