ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON SEPTEMBER 28, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED AS AN AMPHIBIOUS TRUCK DRIVER. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON MARCH 24, 1944 BOUND FOR THE MEDITERRANEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS AND ASSIGNED TO THE 830TH AMPHIBIOUS TRUCK COMPANY ATTACHED TO 7TH ARMY. FOUGHT THROUGH THE ROME-ARNO CAMPAIGN IN ITALY. THEN PARTICIPATED IN THE ASSAULT LANDINGS OF OPERATION DRAGOON THAT BEGAN THE SOUTHERN FRANCE CAMPAIGN AND CONTINUED FIGHTING IN RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. UNIT DEPARTED 7TH ARMY AND THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS IN JUNE 1945 BOUND FOR THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS TO SUPPORT THE INVASION OF JAPAN, BUT WAR ENDED BEFORE SEEING COMBAT IN THAT THEATER. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE ARROWHEAD AND 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS AN AMPHIBIOUS TRANSPORTATION NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (SERGEANT) ON 31 DECEMBER 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
