ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 29, 1943 AT FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. SELECTED FOR THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTIES OF SHEET METAL WORKER (201) AND TRUCK DRIVER (345). ASSIGNED TO THE MEDICINE AND DUTY SERVICES (VS) DETACHMENT, 9901ST TECHNICAL SERVICE UNIT, OFFICE OF THE SURGEON GENERAL. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON OCTOBER 31 BOUND FOR ENGLAND. PARTICIPATED IN THE NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
