ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 11, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING,AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON OCTOBER 18, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY A, 834TH ENGINEER AVIATION BATTALION, IX ENGINEER COMMAND, 9TH AIR FORCE. WENT ASHORE AT OMAHA BEACH AND SERVED THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE DISTINGUISHED UNIT CITATION, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEAL WITH BRONZE ARROWHEAD AND 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON OCTOBER 30, 1945 AT FORT KNOX, KENTUCKY.
