SELECTED FOR THE SIGNAL CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 19, 1942 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO THE 277TH SIGNAL (HOMING) PIGEON COMPANY AND SAW ACTION IN RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE MERITORIOUS UNIT AWARD, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE ON OCTOBER 13, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
