ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON AUGUST 6, 1941 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ORDNANCE CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AUTOMOTIVE MECHANIC (014), ATTENDED TANK ENGINE SERVICE SCHOOL AT FLINT AND DETROIT, MICHIGAN AND INSPECTOR FOREMAN SERVICE SCHOOL AT FORT CROOK, NEBRASKA, AND ASSIGNED TO THE 526TH ORDNANCE (TANK MAINTENANCE) COMPANY. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON DECEMBER 3, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. SERVED IN COMBAT SUPPORT THROUGH THE NORMANDY, NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH SILVER BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON NOVEMBER 9, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS.
