ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MARCH 19, 1942 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF COOK (060). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON FEBRUARY 12, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE SERVICE COMPANY OF THE SEPARATE 707TH TANK BATTALION THROUGH THE NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES AND RHINELAND CAMPAIGNS. REMOVED FROM THE BATTLEFIELD FOR MEDICAL REASONS AND RETURNED TO THE U.S. ON MAY 24, 1945 FOR FURTHER TREATMENT. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY AS A TECHNICIAN 5TH GRADE ON AUGUST 9, 1945 AT PERCY JONES HOSPITAL CENTER, FORT CUSTER, MICHIGAN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
