DRAFTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON OCTOBER 29, 1943 AT NAVAL RECEIVING STATION, CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AND FURTHER TRAINING AT CAMP PERRY, VIRGINIA AND AT TERMINAL ISLAND, CALIFORNIA. SERVED ABOARD THE ATTACK TRANSPORTS USS KENTON APA-122 AND THE USS BANDERA APA-131. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CHIEF CARPENTER’S MATE ON DECEMBER 8, 1945 AT NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
