ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON NOVEMBER 28, 1942 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RIFLEMAN (745), AND LATER QUALIFIED AS A SQUAD LEADER (635). ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH COMPANY B, 16TH ARMORED INFANTRY BATTALION, 13TH ARMORED DIVISION. DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. JANUARY 17, 1945 WITH HIS UNIT BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. HELD IN RESERVE ON THE CONTINENT UNTIL APRIL AND ENTERED COMBAT WITH FIRST ELEMENTS OF THE DIVISION DURING THE WANING DAYS OF THE RHINELAND CAMPAIGN, CONTINUING INTO THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN AND WAR’S END. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A STAFF SERGEANT ON OCTOBER 13, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MACARTHUR, CALIFORNIA.
