ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 7, 1942 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTIES OF RIFLEMAN (745) AND LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL US ON MARCH 7, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH 629TH ENGINEER LIGHT EQUIPMENT COMPANY THROUGH THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 21, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP ATTERBURY, INDIANA.
