ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON MAY 25, 1944 AT SAINT CHARLES, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING CENTER GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS. TRAINED AS A RADAR OPERATOR AT NAVAL TRAINING SCHOOL (RADAR) AT FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA AND ASSIGNED TO SHORE DUTY AT NAVAL OPERATING BASE, NORFOLK, VIRGINIA. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED ABOARD THE DENT CLASS, HIGH SPEED TRANSPORT USS WANTUCK (APD 125). EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A RADARMAN 2ND CLASS ON NOVEMBER 2, 1945 AT NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
