ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON OCTOBER 3, 1940 AT SCOTT FIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RIFLEMAN (745) AND ASSIGNED TO COMPANY L, 355TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 89TH ‘MIDDLE WEST’ INFANTRY DIVISION WHEN THE DIVISION WAS REACTIVATED AT CAMP CARSON, COLORADO. DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON JANUARY 10, 1945 BOUND FOR LE HAVRE, FRANCE AND COMBAT IN THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 14, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
