ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON DECEMBER 29, 1943 AT SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP, TRAINED AS A SEAMAN AND EVENTUALLY A SIGNALMAN. SERVED WITH THE FOLLOWING UNITS: DESTROYER TENDER USS WHITNEY AD-4; DESTROYER TENDER USS DIXIE AD-14; AMPHIBIOUS BASE, TULAGI; NAVAL BASE, LEYTE (YCG-13); NAVY 3149 (YCG-183); COASTAL MINESWEEPER USS PARAMOUNT AMC-92 AND HIGH SPEED TRANSPORT USS GANTNER APD-42. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SIGNALMAN THIRD CLASS ON JANUARY 22, 1947 AT NAVAL RECEIVING STATION, TREASURE ISLAND, SAN PEDRO, CALIFORNIA.
