ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON DECEMBER 7, 1942. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AND SEABEE TRAINING AT NAVAL CONSTRUCTION TRAINING CENTER, CAMP PEARY, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA AND FURTHER TRAINED AT THE AMPHIBIOUS TRAINING BASE, FORT PIERCE, FLORIDA. THEREAFTER, SERVED AT NAVAL CONSTRUCTION TRAINING CENTER, DAVISVILLE, RHODE ISLAND AND WITH CONSTRUCTION MAINTENANCE UNIT 578 OVERSEAS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A GUNNER’S MATE FIRST CLASS ON MAY 20, 1946 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
