ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON APRIL 28, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AUTOMATIC RIFLEMAN (746) AND DEPARTED THE CONTINENTAL U.S. ON NOVEMBER 15, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. PARTICIPATED IN THE NORTHERN FRANCE CAMPAIGN WITH AN UNKNOWN INFANTRY UNIT. EVENTUALLY REASSIGNED TO THE 232ND INFANTRY REGIMENT, 42ND ‘RAINBOW’ INFANTRY DIVISION AND SERVED WITH THEM IN THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION. EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (GERMANY). HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JUNE 16, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN.
