ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 18, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF OBSERVATION STATION OPERATOR (578). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON NOVEMBER 2, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 739TH ANTI-AIRCRAFT ARTILLERY GUN BATTALION AND PARTICIPATED IN THE SOUTHERN PHILIPPINES CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JANUARY 31, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
