ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 13, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE SIGNAL CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND SPECIALIZED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF FIELD LINEMAN (641). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON JANUARY 31, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 78TH SIGNAL COMPANY, 78TH ‘LIGHTNING’ INFANTRY DIVISION IN RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON APRIL 20, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
