ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON SEPTEMBER 29, 1943 AT TOLEDO, OHIO. COMPLETED SEABEE TRAINING AT NAVAL CONSTRUCTION BATTALION TRAINING CENTER, CAMP PERRY, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED AS A COOK WITH THE 31ST SPECIAL NAVAL CONSTRUCTION BATTALION. SPENT 14 MONTHS IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, THE ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SHIP’S COOK SECOND CLASS ON NOVEMBER 24, 1945 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP WALLACE, TEXAS.
