ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON JULY 1, 1943 AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN AND VOLUNTEER FOR THE NAVY V-12 COLLEGE TRAINING PROGRAM AT INDIANA STATE TEACHERS COLLEGE, TERRE HAUTE, INDIANA. AFTER 44 WEEKS IN THAT PROGRAM, TRANSFERRED TO THE NAVY V-5 TRAINING PROGRAM FOR 20 WEEKS. THEREAFTER, HE COMPLETED MIDSHIPMAN TRAINING AND WAS COMMISSIONED ON MARCH 6, 1945. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED AS AN ASSISTANT REPAIR OFFICER AND ENGINEERING OFFICER ABOARD THE LANDING CRAFT REPAIR SHIP USS POSEIDON (ARL-12) IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS AN ENSIGN ON JULY 12, 1946 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
