ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON OCTOBER 21, 1942 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF AUTOMATIC RIFLEMAN (746) AND ASSIGNED TO THE 389TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 98TH ‘IROQUOIS’ INFANTRY DIVISION, IN-TRAINING, STATESIDE. DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON APRIL 17, 1944 BOUND FOR SECURITY DUTY IN THE HAWAII TERRITORY. AFTER WAR’S END, RE-DEPLOYED TO OCCUPIED JAPAN AND SERVED AS A TELEPHONE SWITCHBOARD OPERATOR. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE ARMY OF OCCUPATION MEDAL (JAPAN). HONORABLY DISCHARGED FROM COMPANY C, 300TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON JANUARY 8, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, JEFFERSON BARRACKS, MISSOURI.
