ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 12, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING STATION, FARRAGUT, IDAHO. SERVED AS A SEAMAN IN BOAT POOL 15 AT NAVY 3205 (MANUS ISLAND, ADMIRALTY ISLANDS) AND BOAT POOL 15-1 AT NAVY 3142 (MANILA, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS). SERVED AS A CARPENTER’S MATE IN A NAVAL FACILITIES AND REPAIR UNIT AT CAVITE, LUZON, PHILIPPINE ISLANDS AND ABOARD THE INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE REPAIR SHIP USS OGLALA (ARG-1). EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A CARPENTER’S MATE THIRD CLASS ON APRIL 8, 1946 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
