ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 26, 1942 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE CORPS OF ENGINEERS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF GENERAL CARPENTER (050). ASSIGNED TO COMPANY F, 593RD ‘SURF AND SAND’ ENGINEER BOAT AND SHORE REGIMENT AND CONTINUED TRAINING AT CAMP GORDON JOHNSTON, FLORIDA. DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON NOVEMBER 24, 1943 BOUND FOR THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT IN THE NEW GUINEA AND LUZON CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH BRONZE ARROWHEAD (ASSAULT LANDING) AND 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON DECEMBER 2, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
