ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MAY 13, 1941 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF MILITARY POLICEMAN (677). SERVED STATESIDE UNTIL DEPARTING THE U.S. ON MARCH 23, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH BATTERY B, 747TH FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION (8 INCH HOWITZERS) IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON NOVEMBER 21, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS.
