ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JUNE 11, 1941 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE FIELD ARTILLERY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, ASSIGNED TO HEADQUARTERS BATTERY, 183RD FIELD ARTILLERY BATTALION, AND LATER QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF TRANSPORTATION NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (NCO). DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON JUNE 22, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. FOUGHT WITH HIS NON-DIVISIONAL 155MM HOWITZER UNIT IN NORTHERN FRANCE, ARDENNES, RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE BRONZE STAR MEDAL (VIII CORPS), GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 4 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A MASTER SERGEANT ON OCTOBER 29, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
