ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE ON JANUARY, 26, 1941 AT SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING SCHOOL, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS AND SERVED ABOARD THE TRANSPORT SHIP USS HENDERSON AP-1 BRIEFLY BEFORE VOLUNTEERING FOR SUBMARINE SCHOOL AT NEW LONDON, CONNECTICUT. THEREAFTER, SERVED IN-TURN AS AN ELECTRICIAN’S MATE ABOARD THE USS SNOOK SS-279, USS BILLFISH SS-286 AND THE USS BLACKFISH SS-221 OPERATING IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS AND AT VARIOUS NAVAL INSTALLATIONS BOTH IN THE U.S. AND OVERSEAS. EARNED THE NAVY COMBAT ACTION RIBBON (RETROACTIVELY AWARDED BY 1999 ACT OF CONGRESS), AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS AN ELECTRICIAN’S MATE FIRST CLASS ON OCTOBER 28, 1945 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, SAINT LOUIS, MISSOURI.
