ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JULY 14, 1941 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ORDNANCE CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND ASSIGNED TO THE 506TH ORDNANCE COMPANY. DEPARTED THE U.S. ON MAY 9, 1943 BOUND FOR NORTH AFRICA. RETURNED TO THE STATES ON DECEMBER 15, 1943 AND ASSIGNED TO SUPPLY AND SERVICE DETACHMENT 1, FORT RILEY, KANSAS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A CERTIFICATE OF DISABILITY AS A PRIVATE ON SEPTEMBER 11, 1944 AT THE ARMY SERVICE FORCES REGIONAL HOSPITAL SERVICE UNIT 1747, SAME STATION. ELIGIBLE FOR THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
