ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON FEBRUARY 23, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ORDNANCE CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND EVENTUALLY QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY SPECIALTY OF SQUAD LEADER (529). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON FEBRUARY 11, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 424TH ORDNANCE EVACUATION COMPANY IN RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SERGEANT ON APRIL 2, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
