ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 20, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND EVENTUALLY QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF GUN COMMANDER (601). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON SEPTEMBER 6, 1944 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS AND SERVED WITH BATTERY B, 28TH COAST ARTILLERY BATTALION UNTIL WAR’S END. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE ON DECEMBER 19, 1945 AT THE CAMP GRANT SEPARATION CENTER.
