ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON MARCH 26, 1943 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE ARMORED INFANTRY, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING, QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RADIO OPERATOR (776) AND ASSIGNED TO HEADQUARTERS COMPANY, COMBAT COMMAND ALPHA, 16TH ARMORED DIVISION. DEPARTED THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT ON FEBRUARY 5, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ENTERED COMBAT IN THE CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGN JUST BEFORE THE GERMANY SURRENDER. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 1 BRONZE BATTLE STAR AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON MAY 4, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP MCCOY, WISCONSIN.
