ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON SEPTEMBER 14, 1943. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING STATION FARRAGUT, IDAHO AND TRAINED FURTHER AS AN AVIATION RADIOMAN AT NAVAL AIR TECHNICAL TRAINING CENTER, MILLINGTON, TENNESSEE. SERVED IN TURN ABOARD THE USS LST-459, USS LST-466 AND USS LST-574 AS PART OF LST FLOTILLA 15. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 3 BRONZE BATTLE STARS, WWII VICTORY MEDAL AND THE PHILIPPINE LIBERATION MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A SEAMAN FIRST CLASS ON APRIL 13, 1946 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
