ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE WITH THE MEDICAL DEPARTMENT ON OCTOBER 22, 1940 AT FORT BENJAMIN HARRISON, INDIANA. COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON DECEMBER 23, 1943 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH THE 96TH GENERAL HOSPITAL AT BRICKBARNS NEAR MALVERN, MIDLANDS, ENGLAND. AT WAR’S END IN EUROPE, HE WAS REDEPLOYED TO THE U.S. WITH HIS UNIT TO CAMP MAXEY, TEXAS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON AUGUST 15, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. EARNED THE AMERICAN DEFENSE SERVICE MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
