ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON AUGUST 17, 1944 AT FORT SHERIDAN, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BASIC INFANTRY TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF RIFLEMAN (745). DEPARTED THE U.S. ON JANUARY 8, 1945 BOUND FOR THE EUROPEAN THEATER OF OPERATIONS. ASSIGNED TO AND FOUGHT WITH COMPANY G, 271ST INFANTRY REGIMENT, ‘FIGHTING’ 69TH INFANTRY DIVISION IN THE RHINELAND AND CENTRAL EUROPE CAMPAIGNS. LATER SERVED AS A MOTOR TRANSPORTATION NON-COMMISSIONED OFFICER (NCO). EARNED THE COMBAT INFANTRYMAN BADGE, GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, EUROPEAN-AFRICAN-MIDDLE EASTERN CAMPAIGN MEDAL WITH 2 BRONZE BATTLE STARS AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A TECHNICIAN FIFTH GRADE ON FEBRUARY 26, 1946 AT THE SEPARATION CENTER, CAMP ATTERBURY, INDIANA.
