ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON MAY 4, 1945. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING CENTER GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS AND FURTHER TRAINING AS A FIREMAN AT SCHOOLS AND TRAINING COMMAND, NAVAL TRAINING AND DISTRIBUTION CENTER, CAMP PEARY, WILLIAMSBURG, VIRGINIA. ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED ABOARD THE ATTACK TRANSPORT USS PRESIDENT JACKSON APA-18 IN THE PACIFIC THEATER OF OPERATIONS. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A FIREMAN SECOND CLASS ON MAY 9, 1946 AT THE NAVAL PERSONNEL SEPARATION CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS.
