ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS A DRAFTEE ON JANUARY 21, 1942 AT CAMP GRANT, ILLINOIS. SELECTED FOR THE COAST ARTILLERY CORPS, COMPLETED BASIC TRAINING AND QUALIFIED IN THE MILITARY OCCUPATIONAL SPECIALTY OF LIGHT TRUCK DRIVER (345). AFTER A 19 MONTH DEPLOYMENT ABROAD AT DESTINATION ‘SILVER’ IN 1942 - 1943, ASSIGNED TO AND SERVED WITH BATTERY D (HARBOR DEFENSE), 6TH COAST ARTILLERY REGIMENT IN THE SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA AREA. EARNED THE GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL. HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A PRIVATE FIRST CLASS ON OCTOBER 10, 1945 AT THE SEPARATION POINT, FORT WINFIELD SCOTT, CALIFORNIA.
