CIVIC LEADER AND OWNER OF EMIL ZIMMERMANN WOOD PRODUCTS COMPANY IN NEW YORK CITY. HIS COMPANY SUPPLIED THE U.S. AND ALLIED MILITARY WITH HARD WOOD PRODUCTS THROUGH DEFENSE CONTRACTS. AS A CIVIC LEADER ON THE HOME FRONT HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE QUEENS COUNTRY GRAND JURORS ASSOCIATION, PRESIDENT OF THE WYCKOFF HEIGHTS HOSPITAL BOARD OF TRUSTEES, ONE OF THE FOUNDERS OF QUEENS COLLEGE. AS A WWI VETERAN, HE VOLUNTEERED FOR SERVICE IN WWII (AS A 'RETREAD' ) BUT WAS REFUSED, BECAUSE HIS COMPANY PRODUCED GOODS UNDER DEFENSE CONTRACTS FOR THE WAR EFFORT.
