ENLISTED AND ENTERED ACTIVE SERVICE AS AN APPRENTICE SEAMAN ON MAY 17, 1944 AT CHICAGO, ILLINOIS. COMPLETED BOOT CAMP AT NAVAL TRAINING CENTER, GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS AND FURTHER TRAINING AT CAMP SHOEMAKER AND SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA. ASSIGNED IN TURN TO THE FLAG ALLOWANCE, COMMANDER IN CHIEF PACIFIC AND NAVAL BASE NAVY #824, KWAJALEIN ISLAND, MARSHALL ISLANDS. DEVELOPED A MEDICAL CONDITION THAT REQUIRED HOSPITALIZATION IN THE NAVAL HOSPITAL AT AIEA, OAHU, TERRITORY OF HAWAII, AFTER WHICH HE WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE NAVAL HOSPITAL AT GREAT LAKES, ILLINOIS. HONORABLY DISCHARGED WITH A MEDICAL DISABILITY AS A SEAMAN FIRST CLASS ON OCTOBER 17, 1945 AT THAT STATION. EARNED THE AMERICAN CAMPAIGN MEDAL, ASIATIC-PACIFIC CAMPAIGN MEDAL AND THE WWII VICTORY MEDAL.
