Activity During WWII

Schooling for Radioman, University of Wisconsin and Signalman and other communications, flags, at Connecticut. Assigned to Armed Guard Center, Brooklyn, shipped out on Merchant Marine vessel as Radio and Signalman to Africa, Scotland, Italy and England for almost 2 years. Sent to APA Pre-commission School in Seattle for amphibious training, shipped out on USS Lenawee APA-195. Training landings at Hawaii and the Philippines. Made Iwo Jima Invasion and Okinawa Invasion and was practicing for the Invasion of Japan when President Truman ended the war with the atomic bombs. Went to Tokyo for the signing of the surrender. Received the message for the ship to go to Saipan to pick up troops and head for the ultimate destination, the U.S. After the war, spent 13 months in the Pacific.
